Welcome to Public Utilities Regulatory Commission

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) was established by the PURC Act No. 20 of 2016. The Act speaks generally to Public Utilities but currently only the Electricity Sector has come under the purview of the PURC.

The objectives of the Commission include: building a strong and sustainable regulatory regime that supports the economic development of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and protecting consumers’ interests.

To ensure utility services that are affordable, reliable, efficient, and sustainable and which support Grenada’s Development.

Mission

To promote reliable and sustainable utility services at fair and reasonable prices

The objectives of the Commission include: building a strong and sustainable regulatory regime that supports the economic development of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and protecting consumers’ interests.

The PURC’s operations began in earnest in 2018 with the appointment of three Commissioners, and the hiring of an Administrative Assistant in December, of that same year.

The PURC is led by serving Commissioners Dr. Spencer Thomas – Chairman, Mr. Alister Bain, Mr. Fitzroy James and Mr. Lawrence Samuel (until August 31st).

Daily operations are led by Acting Chief Executive Officer, Jennar Jacob.

Currently, PURC has a staff complement of ten (10).
